About Sol

My parents came to this country from Mexico 36 years ago. My mom worked in a flower shop and my dad was a biology graduate in the state of Michoacan. They left their culture, their language, and their people in hopes of something better for their growing family. I will forever be grateful for their sacrifice and teaching us our roots and culture even as we were raised in a totally different country.

My family lived in Mt. Prospect and then moved to Mundelein in 2000. My brothers and I attended Mundelein High School; I graduated in 2004. After MHS, I obtained my Bachelor’s in Interior Design and worked at Sears Holdings for 12+ years as a Floorplan Analyst and then Walgreens Headquarters as a Senior Space Analyst. Currently, I am the Parent Liaison at Mundelein High School and absolutely love it! I currently serve as Village Clerk of Mundelein, elected in 2019. I am also a proud recipient of the MHS Distinguished Alumni in 2018.

I truly enjoy volunteering my time in our community. My volunteering experience started with the Latino Police Academy in 2016. Since then I have been heavily involved with helping plan ongoing sessions for the Latino Police Academy and coordinating various events like the annual Health Fair and working with different local organizations. I am the current Vice President for the Mundelein Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.

Other volunteering experiences include helping at A-May-Zing Mundelein, Shop with a Cop, and distributing lunches to families during the summer with the Mundelein LUNCH program. The nature of my job at MHS allows me to be involved in recent events such as the Holiday Drive, School Supply Drive, and various food distributions throughout the year since the pandemic started. Finding creative ways to help our community is something that is very important to me.

My Family

My most important titles are mom and wife. My husband Salvador is a man of many trades. He can fix anything and takes pride in all of his work, whether it’s repairing siding, roofing, or working on the interior of homes. Our oldest daughter Naomi is a sophomore at MHS and aspires to become a nurse or pharmacist. Sofia is in fourth grade at Hawthorn Dual Language and has many dreams for herself, which include being an astronaut, judge, or President of the United States (or all three). You may recognize her as Little Miss Mundelein 2018 (she still uses that introduction when meeting new people). Our son, Axel is one year old. He is so fun and sweet, and he has brought so much joy to our family. We also have a 13 year old dog, a puggle named Marley. He is the most loyal being and we love spoiling him.

As a family we enjoy taking walks at Hanrahan Park, going to service on Sundays at The Chapel, and dining out at local restaurants such as Los Naranjos and New China Chef. We also love to travel. We have visited my family in Michoacan, Uruapan in Mexico and Salvador’s family in La Ceiba, Honduras. A few years ago, we started a school supply project in Salvador’s home town in Honduras. We saw a huge opportunity in helping the neighborhood children with their basic needs to attend school. We supplied backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, and other supplies to 60 students last time we visited. It was a very humbling and rewarding experience.

Without the love and support from my family, parents, brothers, and relatives I would not be able to do what I do.
